Fish can make very beautiful, relaxing pets. I started with 2 goldfish in a simple bowl when I was very young, then with my husband, we had a big tank with filter and heater and lots of different types. I had one favourite for quite a few years who would come and kiss my finger through the glass and bang if I didn’t pay attention. He was always hungry like Kilo the Pug but you have to be careful not to overfeed fish.

Fish are cold-blooded animals. They are not able to regulate their own internal body temperatures.
Most fish are vertebrates with bones and a spinal cord protected by vertebrae.
They are covered with scales that protect their bodies.
They have gills and fins but no limbs with digits (like fingers or toes or paws).
They have a brain and an obvious head region with eyes, teeth, and other sensory organs and a tail area.
There are reportedly over 33,100 described species of fish including the wild ones in the sea. That is greater species diversity than any other group of vertebrates, even dogs.
Where Do They Live?
Fish live in water all the time. This can be freshwater (eg goldfish, guppies, and angelfish) or salt water. Pet fish live in tanks, aquariums or ponds.
How Do They Breath?
They breathe in oxygen primarily with gills through water rather than lungs through air like we do.

They have paired fins that aid in locomotion

Fish have been raised in pools and ponds for thousands of years. Brightly coloured or tame specimens of fish in these pools have sometimes been valued as pets rather than food.
